  • REV. DR. PENTIUC PUBLISHES NEW WORK

    Rev. Dr. Eugen J. Pentiuc, Archbishop Demetrios Professor of Biblical Studies and Christian Origins at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology, has published a new book, Hearing the Scriptures: Liturgical Exegesis of the Old Testament in Byzantine Orthodox Hymnography (Oxford University Press, 2021). This work is the first comprehensive lexical-biblical-theological analysis of selected Byzantine Orthodox hymns for Holy Week. The author, an internationally recognized biblical scholar and theologian, examines various ways in which Scriptures, primarily Old Testament texts, have been read and interpreted by Byzantine hymnographers.   • MISSIONS WEEK 2021

    An annual highlight of the fall semester is Missions Week, co-sponsored by the Missions Institute of Orthodox Christianity at HCHC and the student-run Missions Committee. Invited missionaries from around the globe spend a week on campus interacting with students and speaking about their work both formally and informally. The week is capped by the annual EFOM (Endowment Fund for Orthodox Missions) Lecture.     On October 29, 2021, His Grace Bishop Joachim of Amissos presented a paper entitled “The Imagery of Byzantine Lead Seals” in the Dumbarton Oaks (Harvard Center for Byzantine Studies) day-long, virtual, international colloquium Seals and Society in the Medieval World. The colloquium was held to mark the recent completion of the Dumbarton Oaks Online Catalogue of Byzantine Seals (for the online catalogue of approximately 17,000 seals, go to http://www.doaks.org/resources/seals).   • HCHC COMMUNITY PARTICIPATES IN U.S. VISIT OF HIS ALL-HOLINESS

    A large contingent of Hellenic College Holy Cross students, faculty, and administrators traveled to New York City on Saturday, October 30, to attend a luncheon with His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew. The event took place at the Marriott Marquis hotel and was sponsored by Leadership 100, whose programs support the well-being of clergy and their families, the students and seminarians of HCHC, and other ministries of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America.
